YMSA - Mantra Meditation Studio Sunshine Coast - Amazing Animals

 Amazing Animal Stories

When this little chimp was abandoned by his mother his future looked grim.
But thanks to the unlikely intervention of a huge bull mastiff and her adorable litter of four puppies, his life was soon a lot happier.

The chimpanzee was born at a Russian zoo and was taken home by one of the staff after it became clear he had not bonded with his mother.

By chance, her 100lb bull mastiff had just given birth and the dog was soon treating the new addition as one of the family.
Endearingly, the chimp soon seemed to think he was a puppy himself, bending double to eat from food bowls with his adoptive siblings. The puppies were also great to play with – and particularly good when the abandoned baby wanted a cuddle.

Wearing a big nappy, the cheeky chimp embraces its new mum, caressing her ears and looking very content as he takes a snooze against her furry belly.
In another photo the chimp holds an apple in its tiny hands to take a bite.
This chimp is now two and is reported to still be enjoying the company of its adopted canine family.

Animal behaviour experts say dogs are normally frightened of primates, however, this is not the first cross species adoption.

  • In 2005 a newborn squirrel was discovered in Seattle having been adopted by a pregnant papillon dog called Mademoiselle Giselle. Incredibly the dog allowed the squirrel to suckle on her beside her puppies.
  • The same year Owen, a one-year-old hippo, was taken in by Mzee, a 130-year-old giant tortoise, in a Kenyan zoo after the big baby was orphaned. The tortoise was removed two years later.
  • Golden retriever Isabella adopted three white Bengal tiger cubs on a US ranch in 2008 – they were separated for the dog’s own safety when the big cats reached a year old.

YMSA - Yoga Meditation Studio Palm Beach - An Invitation

Yoga Meditation

Yoga Meditation and associated practices are all about encouraging a healthy holistic lifestyle naturally benefiting Body, Mind, & Spirit.

A friend mentioned the other day that they thought it was time they got out of the house. Got some sun, went for a walk along the beach felt the sand under their feet. Maybe even do a little wading in the ocean. Brrrrr ... It's a little too cold to go swimming (for some of us) right now :)  Anyway ... I've decided I'm going to begin this post with the same sentiments.

It's Time

To ... "GET OUT" of the house. Step outside your comfort zone and try new experiences. Challenge yourself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Be brave, expand your awareness and dig a little deeper. You will be pleasantly surprised by what you'll find.

Are you brand new to yoga and meditation, OR are you already aware of the awesomeness of these very powerful, health giving practices. If you are new to the practice of yoga and meditation here's an opportunity to learn more and to try it for yourself. You will experience the benefits if you do.

We are not only about a healthy holistic lifestyle, working with the body, and taking it safely to the edge through the practice of yoga asanas. We are also very into finding out how to tune into our own body, becoming more aware of how it functions and for starters  becoming aware of our physical limitations, most do not have this awareness at all. Most have never considered or given this a second thought.

We are also about tapping into our spiritual potential, this is where the fun and true power lies, the power to transform lives. There is nothing airy fairy about this practice of Yoga Meditation it's foundation is rooted in very ancient wisdom and philosophy. The key to which is a very simple process. You won't believe how easy and enjoyable it is.

Come and practice Yoga and Meditation with us, in a chilled out, relaxed setting, a safe yoga space. Come together, develop meaningful friendships on the spiritual level, learn and also have fun, in a peaceful uplifting environment.

If you are interested in the healthy body, mind, spirit experience with all of the well known associated physiological and psychological benefits - you are welcome to contact us.

Leave a comment and your details below. We will get back to you as soon as we can.

Wishing for you peace and happiness

YMSA - Yoga Meditation Studio Palm Beach - Viloma Breathing

Viloma Breathing

Last week we blogged about Nadi Shodan breathing and all the great benefits we can experience through the practice of Nadi Shodan pranayama.

Another breathing technique that I love to use when I ‘just’ need a break is Viloma breathing.

Again, just like with all other pranayamas, each breathing technique is priceless in that it makes you become more aware of your breath and particularly how you are breathing. Here in this practice we have the opportunity to direct the breath, control the mechanical process of breathing to increase the health benefits of our natural breathing our inhale and exhale.

The practice of Viloma breathing requires that you to bring the breath down to the bottom of the lungs and then bring the breath up to the middle of the lungs. So, we are working the breath in stages.  It is also known as top up or staggered breath.

Our lives are so stressful, we find that during the day tension and stress builds up in the body. When this happens we tend to breathe very shallowly into the upper part of the lungs.  Stress starts in the mind and the body takes the blows. Tension accumulates in the most vulnerable areas of the body, or where we have a tendency to hold tension and stress. Usually the neck, shoulders and head suffer.  The end result of shallow breathing is that the lungs take only a third of the breath it needs into the upper chest while the lower and middle parts are ignored.  Stagnant air becomes trapped in the lower areas of our lungs and has no way of moving out of the body. The only way we can get rid of this toxic air is through the practice of pranayama. We need fresh prana to circulate through the lungs in order to flush out all of the toxic, stale air.  This is very important because if stale air stays in the lungs this is not healthy for the body. The lungs transport air into the blood stream to revitalize and feed all of our cells, keeping the body healthy. The more fresh chi we can send to the blood stream the better off and healthier we will be.  If an ample supply of fresh oxygen prana or chi is not available to enter the blood stream we may become lethargic, tired and prone to sickness.

Viloma breathing will gently remove tension out of the entire body, you will become aware of the release in the torso especially when you inhale and bring the breath in and down to the ribcage, abdominal region.  The shoulders will soften; releasing tension and the lungs will be stretched and exercised increasing lung capacity and also increasing strength to the lung muscle tissue.   Your parasympathetic nervous system will switch on and revitalise, re-energise and heal the body. The longer you are able to practice this relaxation technique the more benefits the body will gain.

I love to practice Viloma breathing before I go to bed at night. It is very effective due to the rapid way this practice relaxes the body. I calm my body, slow my mind down and reduce my heart rate while listening to yoga mantras that rest my soul and helps me to feel peaceful.

I can’t think of a better way to transport the body/mind/spirit into a soothing, tranquil state before nodding off.

If you would like any more information on this topic (pranayama breathing) or yoga and meditation you are welcome to contact us. Leave a comment along with your details and we will get back to you as soon as wel can. Have a great day.

YMSA - Kirtan Meditation Studio Suffolk Park NSW

WHO AM I

Most people think I am this body or perhaps the brain.
I disagree with this view however and I am going to demonstrate why by comparing my body with a car .

Do you drive a really old car? I used to have an old FORD --The "Fix Or Repair Daily!"…."Found On the Road Dead"..... and it was...several times!

Practically speaking I built a new Ford car after replacing all the parts over five years. It was a completely different car to the one I started with.
Similarly, by the process of metabolism replacing the cells (or parts of the body), I've got a new body that I didn't have five years ago. Unfortunately that doesn't alter the ageing process. My Ford was old and valueless but that didn't make me old or valueless. Now my body is old but I don't feel old or valueless.

Now to use the analogy of comparing the body with a car.
  • I replaced the engine.
  • Doctors transplant hearts
  • I replace the steel ball joints
  • Doctors fit new titanium hips & knees
  • I repaint the car.
  • By metabolism the body grows a new skin in about a month.
  • I replace the fuel filter
  • The body replaces the liver in six weeks
  • I replace the GPS computer in the car.
  • The body replaces the brain in my head.
  • Surprising huh!! You may have thought the nerve & brain cells didn't regenerate.
Let me quote Paul Weiss:

"Recent Studies on the turnover of the molecular population within a given nerve cell have indicated that their macro-molecular contingent is renewed about ten thousand times in a lifetime"

Taken from Paul Weiss:

" The Living System; Determinism Stratified."
in Arthur Koestler and J R Smythies, eds., Beyond Reductionism (London:Hutchison, 1969), p. 13.

In other words the matter making up the brain cells changes completely every three days.
I exist now and in three days I'll still be the same person. It's obvious that I'm not the brain but I'm simply using the brain. If I was the brain I would be a different person every three days.

So If I'm not the brain I must be some other part of the body, right?

Wrong, sorry;

Let me quote Dr Paul Aebersold of the Oak Ridge Atomic Reseach Center
  • And my late friend, Donald Hatch Andrews, Professor of Chemistry at Johns Hopkins University, who seems to have given the matter long consideration, put it at about five years, after which one can presumably consider one's physical body completely new, down to the very last atom.

Who Am I, if I'm not this body?

I'm the living force using this body now and five years ago I existed using a totally different
body.

I am not dependent on this material body for my existence rather this material body is dependent on me for it's existence and as soon as I the self, leave this body it dies.
